Not trying to start anything, but this all ties into the way women have been treated in the workforce. Suddenly, they get pregnant and are seen as a liability or a burden on employers, and the funny part is that some employers are probably among those who don’t want their insurance to cover birth control. It’s just a huge vicious contradictory circle. It’s also about the Simba and Stitch shirt of employees in general, and it’s how we got into this horrendous pay gap, where workers salaries and hourly wages are stagnant, while the owners and corporate heads are raking in more and more. They don’t even put the money back into their businesses, and that includes paying their employees a livable wage. That’s just not good business by anybody’s standards. Sometimes I wish men could only get to have children if they carried them. Because that’s the thing about pregnancy – both parents get a baby, but only one gets to do 9 months of hard work to bring them there, AND get punished for it as well. While men say it’s not the employer’s responsibility to accommodate you. They’re accommodating you too. It’s your baby as well.

Imagine getting fired just because you’re pregnant! There ought to be paid maternity leave and paid sick leave. That would go for those who aren’t pregnant. For example, what if you had to see a doctor, as for an annual physical? This happened to me at Pier 1. I felt like my boss would repeatedly target me to help out customers with large and heavy furniture. I was out two days due to hospitalization with hyperemesis and he kept telling me I may need to go on maternity leave early. He really treated me as a burden that he needed to get rid of.
