Tax should be paid where revenue is generated regardless of where the business is physically located, a company’s that trade in the UK should pay tax here easy no more Starbucks scams, please. Amazon has registered themselves in Switzerland now if you look when you make a payment it’s being paid into a Swiss bank account. Presumably to avoid paying tax in the UK. If they put this in place I would be fully in favor of retaliatory action taken by the US. There is a reason there are no leading tech companies in France…and this is illustrative of the problem. They cannot compete so they feel they have to tax. Won’t work. Why not make it more business friendly to bring in more companies than nickel and diming everyone? It’s time to introduce a purchase tax on every item bought on the internet, the tax could be on a value scale with the basic tax starting at 50p, it would raise billions.

I am no economist but I would think that these taxes are best placed unilaterally by many nations? Otherwise, they would just set up in the most cost-effective jurisdiction. This tax avoidance really gets on my wick. They all do it. When my kids were little I lost my child tax credits one year, had to pay it back as the husband did loads of overtime helping out staff shortage issues. Never got it again even though that year’s earnings were a one-off. These companies (and artists, business people) with their flash accountants hide their money year upon year, it’s time something was done to make the system fair. Especially when the low paid and self-employed small businesses get chased for every pound by HMRC. I won’t buy off Amazon or any other online if I can help it. I prefer to shop in towns.
