Robert Leon, And you still have not answered my question. How does speaking up and fighting for the rights, freedoms, and Liberties of the individual hurt anyone? Who is hurt when we say we are going to stand up and fight for the liberty of each individual? Who gets the raw end of that deal? Little Bear well as I’ve mentioned several times on this thread, there is no smaller minority than the individual. Every time a black person or a gay person or female experienced discrimination or their rights not being protected, each one of those represents the story of an individual. And all of these court cases that the ACLU represents are about individual freedoms and individual liberties. Sean Dvon I already answered, it doesn’t, but what you’re saying is unrealistic. People don’t group themselves, it’s the oppressor that creates the label and it’s the only way to address the I’m not an angry person stupid people just piss me off constantly shirt. Relying on people is just plain naive and dumb. Robert Leon well if you had taken the time to read my original comment that I made hours ago you would see the word SHOULD in there. I said that the rights of all Americans SHOULD matter to all people. I didn’t say that is the way it is today. There was a time when most people used an outhouse and churned their own butter… but you know what? Times change. People change. And I choose to live my life believing that Humanity can change. I know it’s not a popular opinion in this negative political climate. But I’d rather hold on to that.
Robert Leon so you are admitting that speaking up for the rights of everyone does not hurt anyone BUT you’re saying that to pursue the rights of everyone is unrealistic. So please tell me which group gets their liberties, freedoms, and rights protected and which groups don’t? I’d like a list of the ones that don’t. In other words, it’s too inconvenient for you to care about everyone’s rights. It’s a lot easier for you to just care about some people’s rights and then to hell with other people and their rights if you don’t care about them? I think that’s what I’m hearing? Is that correct? So please tell me about the individual’s whos rights you don’t care about. And explain to me how that is any different than the days of slavery or racial oppression? Nobody is harmed. You just aren’t achieving anything. You’re not even inspiring anyone to achieve anything because your premise is so broad and vapid, nobody gives a shit. Sean Dvon well guesses what, outhouses and butter churning have nothing to do with a civilization that’s been doing the same thing for millennia. I applaud you for your idealism, but that’s just not the reality. It would be great if people were just kind to each other. But If I’m not an angry person stupid people just piss me off constantly shirt teaches us anything it’s there will always be assholes in the world. Your pie in the sky thinking will never come to be because human nature isn’t like that.
Tony VanderHeyden then you just made my point. The reason why more is not done to protect the rights of people is that people like you only care about the rights of certain groups and not the individual. If this was a case about a group of blacks you would feel a certain way. If it was a case of a group of lesbians you would feel a certain way. If it was a case of a bunch of gun owners you would feel a certain way. If it was a case of a bunch of high school kids that wear Trump Maga hats you would feel a different way. That is the problem. You and many others fail to realize that everyone’s rights deserve to be protected. And once you start cherry-picking who’s rights matter and who’s don’t based on what group they belong to and your stereotypes about that group, it erodes the liberty for everyone. Thank you for making my point that we should stop lumping people into categories and start worrying about the individual and maybe, just maybe we would get more done to the preservation of Rights and Liberties and Freedoms.
