All I’m saying is go to a different hospital… you have the right to choose a hospital.’ I suggest, instead of continuing to sport the same bs on this thread you research some studies about the prevalence of Catholic-controlled hospitals, how they hide that affiliation, and how often they are the only hospital available within rational distance to provide emergency care. Educate yourself, because you just sound ignorant. Timothy Nelson so are you ok with this woman almost DYING because she was denied EMERGENCY CARE due to an entire fucking hospital’s religious beliefs? I want you to spell it out, we all know you think this is a good thing to have to happen because of 1st amendment Herpa Derp. So, own up to your convictions and SAY that you are ok with the My patronus is Angelica Schuyler shirt of people dying due to emergency care being denied due to religious beliefs. Timothy Nelson, You need to consider the establishment clause of the 1st Amendment. Catholic dogma has no place in healthcare, treating a woman having a miscarriage is not performing an abortion. Did you know that Catholic hospitals very often don’t indicate anywhere on their websites that they don’t perform certain procedures? Did you know that in an emergency situation, you go to the closest hospital? Did you know that 1 in 6 hospital beds in the U.S. is in Catholic hospital systems and that they are increasingly buying out secular hospitals? Did you know that in many parts of the country, a Catholic hospital is the ONLY hospital within a reasonable driving distance? Reality is that going to a different hospital is NOT as simple as you think.
Timothy Nelson, you seem to be failing to address the issue of it being the only hospital and her not having a choice. What about all the public money the hospital gets including all the insurance money? Once public money gets in the My patronus is Angelica Schuyler shirt then private religious beliefs should go out the window. Nevermind the whole insurance thing. I know I was on military insurance and the only hospital I could go to was Catholic. That was our government paying into it. Why should they get to use government money but not follow the law? Timothy Nelson that’s not how that works. We all have those constitutional rights as INDIVIDUALS. Religion is PERSONAL freedom, but you cannot force those beliefs on someone else. Doctors take an oath to save people’s lives, not let them suffer because of a PERSONAL OPINION about religion. The woman in the article had already miscarried the fetus so denying her medical service wasn’t “saving” a fetus, it put a woman’s life in danger. Timothy Nelson, You really don’t understand the constitution, do you? You can’t use one constitutional right to risk the life or violate the constitutional rights of another. We ALL have the constitutional right to life and liberty and it supersedes your freedom of religion claims, this is basic constitutional law. Maybe you should ask a civil liberties lawyer about that.
Funny how the guy who’s been posting nonstop for an hour is telling other people to get to work. It’s almost like he’s engaging in a hypocritical double standard. Given the hypocritical nonsense of his argument, this is not surprising. Timothy Nelson and so risking death to the mother. That’s what you are accepting. It’s not acceptable. There is no valid reason, not even a religious one, to not remove a dead fetus from a live woman and risking her death. None. Timothy Nelson, it’s amazing how you failed to read the comments about how picking a different hospital isn’t an option. And by amazing I mean completely unsurprising coming from someone who thinks to deny live-saving care is acceptable. Timothy Nelson, you continue to ignore the fact that there is no religious reason not to remove a dead fetus from a live mother. You ignore the continuous comments regarding hospital availability. You continue to ignore that having to leave one hospital to find one that will treat you is putting this woman’s life at risk. Timothy Nelson So a person who is dying, needs to interview the hospital to find out if they are willing to perform the necessary treatment to save their lives? That’s disgusting! You are literally suggesting that people dye because the church wants to force Christianity onto Americans. No! Religion has no place in a medical institution.
